Champagne Shivers is now open to submissions.

Editor's Introduction

Champagne Shivers will now be published once a year as a print magazine designed to showcase the work of poets, fiction writers, non fiction writers, cartoonists, photographers and artists with the ability to inspire shivers in readers. The most significant challenge for potential contributors is to inspire those chills with work done in good taste. Yes, I want scary stuff, but I don't want anything that falls short of eloquent and poetic language. And, yes, I want illustrations that demonstrate horror, but only those that are well-rendered and done in reasonably good taste. To me, the word "Champagne" signifies quality and good taste, thus the title "Champagne Shivers."

Poems and Demented Nursery Rhymes:

Unpublished horror poems only; 20 - 30 lines only; shorter or longer work will not be considered. Submit in the body of your email. Do not send attachments. Submit as often as you'd like but send just one poem (with bio) per email.

Horror Fiction:

Please submit in the body of an e-mail. Do NOT send attachments. Unpublished stories written in the third person only. Do not send stories written in the first person. I love horror stories about the Old West, psychological horror fiction, tales about insane asylums, carnivals and travelling shows, crime stories, the mysterious, the unusual or the bizarre, or anything that's well written and at least a little convincing. All stories must be between 500 and 2,500 words and you must include a word count. If you're able to impress me, I'm willing to buy more than one story from you but each must be submitted in the body of a separate e-mail. No word count, no chance for acceptance.

Non Fiction:

Please submit in the body of an e-mail. Do NOT send attachments. Submit articles on horror movies, horror celebrities, horror trends, the history of horror, or any idea or topic that focuses on horror (with or without black and white photos, which will receive extra payment). Send me something unusual and entertaining. The maximum word count for all articles is 2,000 words.

Illustrations, Photos, and Cover Art:

In keeping with tradition, I'd prefer to publish an unusual female on the cover of Champagne Shivers, although all expertly rendered images will be considered. For the back cover, anything goes as long as it's done in good taste. Send one submission at a time as a JPEG or GIF file of less than 50k in the body of an email as I will not open attachments.

For All Submissions:

Please submit in the body of an e-mail. Do NOT send attachments. Always let the editor know which rights you're offering. Your byline should always appear under your submission's title. At the end of your submission, include a fascinating bio of four or five sentences (written in the third person) that tells me something about yourself, other than where you've been published. Include your snail mail address if you want payment for your work. Score points with the editor by submitting in Times Roman 11 or 12. Type CS and the title of your submission in the subject line and email to: ChampagneShivers@hotmail.com.

Payment:

All payments will be made in American dollars and each contributor will receive one print copy of Champagne Shivers, to be published no later than January 2009.
