Lunar Moth

by G. O. Clark

Born of moon dust,

chameleon in nature,

they hover night and day

above the pitted, stark surface,

alighting now and then upon

some crater's rim or

perch along the ridge line,

the dark spots upon their

wings mimicking moon scars.

Telescopes can never find

true focus upon the lunar moths.

Infrared has consistently failed

in picking up their signature.

And the few footfalls thus far

leaving their impression upon

the lunar terrain,

have blindly avoided disrupting

their natural order of things.

Eventually those

who follow their Apollo forebear's

may be better equipped psychically

for the collecting of this

rarity of imagined rarities,

their nets meshed tightly enough

to contain the dusty specimens

they dimly perceive.
